Dmitry Vassylyev, Ph.D.
Dmitry Vassylyev is a widely-recognized academic expert in protein crystallography due to his 25 years of research regarding the function and structure of proteins. He has spoken at more than 25 international conferences and authored 88 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including 10 in Nature. He is a reviewer for Nature, Science, Nature Communications, Cell, Molecular Cell, EMBO Journal, Journal of Molecular Biology, and Acta Crystallographica.
Vassylyev joined The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2005 as a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. It was here that he developed the novel CL7/Im7 method to improve the purification of complex proteins beyond the capabilities of commercial systems.
Vassylyev earned a Ph.D. from the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Moscow) in 1992. Following his post-doctoral training at the Protein Engineering Institute in Osaka, Japan, he held senior research posts with the International Institute for Advanced Research in Kyoto and the Biomolecular Engineering Research Institute. He was previously a Senior Research Scientist and Group Leader with RIKEN Harima Institute in Harima, Japan.
