Bob Shufflebarger is a life sciences industry veteran. He has more than 25 years of experience operating in all facets of life science and technology businesses. His experience ranges from his earliest years of working at the lab bench to significant senior and executive management experience.
Shufflebarger was Chief Operating Officer at Atherotech Diagnostics Lab, where he was one of the first 15 employees hired in 2000. During that time, he led Atherotech’s operational scale-up and increased capacity more than 100-fold. At its peak, the company generated more than $140 million in revenue. Throughout his 16 years at the company, he also held other crucial positions including Director of Operations, Finance Director, and Vice President of Operations.
His career also includes managing marketing and business development activities for the Birmingham-based Southern Research Institute, a preclinical drug development contract research organization. He has held technical positions at Southern Biotechnology Associates and at Avanti Polar Lipids, both privately-held specialty chemical manufacturers.
Shufflebarger earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Birmingham-Southern College and an MBA from Duke University. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Birmingham Venture Club for 10 years, and served as Board President in 2015 and 2016. He chaired the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk in 2015, which raised more than $500,000 in Birmingham.
